Liberty Partnerships Program

The Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) at Hostos Community College is a dropout prevention program serving middle and high school students through after-school, weekend, and summer activities. The program’s primary goal is to support students in developing strong academic skills and staying on track to graduate, while also introducing them to a college environment.

LPP is designed to improve students’ academic performance through a combination of credit and non-credit academic courses and a wide range of enrichment activities. High school academic offerings are customized to meet school-specific needs, with a focus on core subjects such as math and science.

Our enrichment activities are designed to engage and inspire, including sports, jewelry making, book clubs, and non-traditional courses such as digital photography. We also offer courses aimed at building interest in technology and STEM-related fields. These activities are enhanced by career workshops and, at times, language development courses such as Spanish. All LPP students have access to homework assistance.

LPP participants may also join the Summer Youth Employment Program, which places students in various departments across the Hostos Community College campus to gain valuable work experience.

To broaden their educational experience, students are exposed to the arts through cultural trips to places like the Botanical Garden and performances at the Hostos Theater.

LPP operates through a strong network of partners including community-based organizations, schools, parents, faculty, local businesses, the Department of Education (DOE), and institutions of higher education. The program is staffed by college faculty, high school teachers, Liberty alumni, and undergraduate students who serve as tutors and mentors.

Program partners include Hostos Lincoln Academy of Science (Grades 6–12), Health Opportunities High School, the Community School for Social Justice, I.S. 584, and the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO).
